GAME SHAREWARE
QUAKE
Quake: The Doomed Dimension, from id Software, takes advantage
of the latest PC processors to give you realism unmatched by other
games. The long-awaited successor to DOOM features an enhanced
game engine that offers a full six degrees of freedom;
polygon-based, texture-mapped items; and environmental sound
effects produced by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Played with the
mouse and/or keyboard, it offers fluid movement and furious action.
Look all around you, including up and down, as your opponents
come from all directions. You'll meet up with spikes, lava, and
crushing ceilings; you can run out of breath while swimming
underwater; and doors and other objects are no longer restricted to
up-and-down movements. Military-style weapons include shotguns,
nailguns, rocket launchers, and grenade launchers. There are three
levels of Deathmatch play. Advanced network capabilities support
dozens of players, and players can join and leave games in progress.
This shareware version offers the first of four episodes; get the
other three when you register. Quake requires a floating point
processor and 8MB RAM; 16MB is recommended (required for
Windows 95). The shareware version needs 30MB of hard disk
space. A Pentium processor and a 16-bit Sound Blaster are highly
recommended for the full experience. Don't hesitate to join the battle,
as this game is sure to have the gaming world quaking in its boots
for some time to come. This release contains fixes for 25 general
problems, plus 2 fixes in single-play mode and 21 in
multiplayer/server play. Most noticably, you are now able to use
thunderbolts and align crosshairs under water, and to aim axes.
